Alice was a next door neighbour and very long-time friend of our family. We lived next door to each other in Inglewood (really Westmount) for many years. Growing up, she was always "Auntie Alice" to my brother and me, and a best friend to our mother. I will always remember her dropping by for a visit with infectious enthusiasm and a positive outlook on almost everything.
It's funny how sometimes something unique lasts a life time and reminds us of an old precious friend. Auntie Alice used to make potatoes with chives. Because my brother and I liked them so much - she gave my mom some to grow in our garden. The chives grew there for many many years. After I grew up and moved away - I took a cutting to grow them in at our house. The chives still grow in our garden - and every summer when we enjoy them - I think of Auntie Alice with fond memories of her in our childhood.
I hope we all remember Alice Bodnar for that infectious, positive bright light that she brought to so many of us. May she rest in peace.
