Obituary of Violet Donnelly

DONNELLY, Violet December 24, 1924 – October 18, 2016 Violet Selena Donnelly ( nee Marcotte) , born in Assinaboia, Saskatchewan, passed away on October 18, 2016 at the age of 91 years. She is survived by her loving family, her children Delores (Joe) Honish, Janet Lepkie and Melvin Leslie; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sisters Beatrice McBride and Lenora (Merv) Shawab; along with numerous nieces, nephew, relatives and friends. Violet was predeceased by her husbands Harvey Leslie and George Donnelly; daughter Sharon Robinson; daughter-in-law Joan Leslie; parents Leo and Josie Marcotte; siblings Bob, Louis, Ken, Grace and George. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Autumn Rose Funeral Home in Vegreville, Alberta. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Vegreville Care Centre, who helped make our mom comfortable in her last years. She considered them to be an extension to her family Violet was the 3rd oldest of 8 children with the oldest and youngest still surviving. On May 5th, 1942 Violet married Harvey Leslie, she had four children. On April 20th , 1979, Violet married George Donnelly and lived in Edmonton. Violet moved to Vegreville in 2010. She was a very hard worker and was not afraid to make a “go” of a business venture. She started out in cafes, working, owing and operating them. She had one of the first food truck in Edmonton, they would take hot meals and soup to construction sites three times a day and five days a week. In the early 1970’s she gave up her cafes and started a dry cleaning business on the north side of Edmonton. In 1976 she got her boilers certificate with a grade four education. On Oct 18, 2016 Violet went to sleep and is now waiting for a resurrection, a time when the earth will be restored to a paradise. We will be waiting to welcome her back.
